Calliandra surinamensis is a type of low-branching shrub from the Fabaceae family. In Indonesia, Calliandra surinamensis is called the same as Calliandra Sulimaraja or Calliandra riparia. However, based on many references that we have read, the leaf shape is actually different. The leaves of Sulimaraja or Calliandra riparia are shaped like butterflies, while Surinamensis is shaped like the picture below. This plant usually has many stems that branch and grow to a height of about 5 meters, although many sources state that it only reaches a height of 3 meters. If left alone, the growth of the branches of this tree will be long and eventually fall to the ground. The flowers of Calliandra surinamensis are round with stamens that are elongated like hair. There are 2 common flower colors, namely red and pink. Flowers throughout the year with a more productive period. This type of Calliandra is very familiar to be used as a bonsai by displaying the charm of the beauty of its flowers.
